Alvopetro wins final arbitration, secures stake in Brazil’s Caburé gas field
Alvopetro Energy Ltd (TSX-V:ALV, OTC:ALVOF, FRA:A6Y0) has won a final arbitration ruling that permanently secures its expanded working interest in Brazil’s Caburé natural gas field, closing the door on a multi-year dispute with its joint venture partner.
The International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce ruled on April 27 that an independent expert’s decision is “final, valid, and effective,” definitively binding both parties under their Unit Operating Agreement.
The ruling confirms Alvopetro’s 56.2% working interest in the unitized area encompassing Caburé, up from the previous 49.1% and orders Alvopetro’s partner to cover 90% of the costs of the proceeding.
The dispute traces back to 2023, when the parties initiated the first redetermination of working interests under their agreement and appointed an independent expert to evaluate each side’s interpretation. The expert ruled in Alvopetro’s favour in April 2024, awarding the higher working interest.
After the partner filed a notice of dispute seeking to stay the redetermination, Alvopetro pursued emergency arbitration before the ICC, winning an order in May 2024 that made the expert’s decision effective June 2024. That order was upheld by the full tribunal in August 2025, and the final ruling issued this week brings the matter to a definitive close.
The outcome bolsters Alvopetro’s position in Brazil at a time when the Calgary-based company is executing a growth strategy anchored around its Caburé and Murucututu natural gas assets and supporting midstream infrastructure.
