Rubio to meet counterparts from India, Japan and Australia
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is due to attend a security meeting in New Delhi on Tuesday with his counterparts from India, Japan and Australia.
The main aim of the so-called Quad group is to ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific.
According to India, the participants intend to use the one-day meeting to discuss how cooperation can be expanded in various areas. The situation in the Indo-Pacific region and other international issues are also expected to be in focus.

Alongside Rubio, the meeting will be attended by Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, India’s Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and Japan’s Toshimitsu Motegi.
The Quad is a largely informal dialogue forum founded in 2007 and revived 10 years later after being dissolved in the interim.
The group is not officially directed against any particular country, but is seen as part of efforts to counter China’s growing assertiveness in the region. Other areas of cooperation include health security, technology, climate action and infrastructure development.
